Research Design and Support Services

Raven is a knowledge-based company grounded in the practical application of science and the scientific method. Our personnel have published more than twelve peer-reviewed scientific research papers. Raven has been the lead investigator for a variety of research projects including radio telemetry and mark-recapture of terrestrial species, the effects of fire on sensitive plant communities, nest parasitism, grassland bird ecology, and red-cockaded woodpecker management and ecology. The staff at Raven embraces the scientific method but also has the maturity of experience to apply it in a pragmatic and useful way. We can provide stand-alone research services or integrate research into the larger planning and management needs of our clients.

Design and Implementation
The first step in research design is the development of discrete but feasible research questions. Raven will work with the client to understand their research goals and then help to identify and refine the appropriate research question(s). Our experience in both the academic and commercial sectors enables us to develop methodologies that optimize data collection and then manage that data in a cost-effective and practical manner while working within the research budget and timeline.

Statistical Analysis
There are a large number of equally valid statistical methods used to analyze data. Raven can help the client determine the most effective and user-friendly statistical method that best describes their data, and that also provides the most meaningful answers to their research questions. Raven not only strives to identify the statistical approach that best matches the client’s data and needs, but also to provide research results that are understandable to both the client and any prospective audience.

Management and Support
Raven is prepared to assist the client at any level of the research process, from initial design, to data collection and analysis, to the final write-up and publication. Depending on the client’s needs and budget, Raven can provide research design, management, or support services at select phases of a project or provide turnkey research from start to finish.

Writing and Publication
Research results are only useful when they answer the appropriate questions in an objective and scientific manner. But just as importantly the results must be effectively communicated, and when appropriate, the knowledge gained should be useful and implementable in real-world applications. Raven’s extensive experience in technical writing and scientific publishing can help the client create an understandable and professional presentation or manuscript that can also be put to use in the field.
