Mapping and GIS/GPS Technology Services
Raven can create user-friendly maps to assist the small landowner in the management of their
property or collect, manage, and analyze, complex spatial and tabular data to meet the specifications
of larger landowners and projects. We utilize state of the art Geographic Information System (GIS)
software and have both high precision and field grade Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) receivers.
Our staff is experienced in the interpretation of color infrared aerial imagery, U.S. Geologic Survey
maps, and many other types of public domain spatial data that can be acquired free of charge via the
Internet. This helps to minimize, and occasionally eliminates, the need to gather more expensive
field-data so that we can pass these savings on to our clients.
Property Maps
Landowners, large or small, can benefit from our mapping services. A map that delineates property
boundaries, roads, streams and other physical features is a good beginning for almost any type of
land management plan. Raven can overlay these property features onto color aerial photographs and/or
topographic maps, delineate management units, and deliver to the client a one-page tool for executing
management plans and communicating that plan to others.
Land-use and Planning Maps
GIS software enables Raven to develop customized maps that describe both the property and any underlying
inventory data. Examples of this data might include timber inventory for forest management units, the
plan date and completion date for prescribed burn units, the location and type of unique plant communities
or any other type of special-use zone. Area, length, distance to other features, and many other useful
measures can also be calculated. The underlying data associated with any management unit can be exported
as a hard-copy table, such as an Excel file, and used to periodically update a written management plan.
GPS Field Data Acquisition
Raven has the equipment, knowledge, and experience to collect GPS field data that meets the specifications
and needs of any client. Our staff understands the importance of interoperability and compatibility with
the client’s GIS projections, datums, and precision requirements.
GIS-GPS Project Support
Raven can provide turnkey GIS, GPS, and mapping services that range from basic ownership maps for the
small private landowner to a fully integrated “virtual” management plan that combines any (or all) of
our other environmental services with our GIS capability. Companies that wish to outsource their GPS
field data acquisition can rely on Raven to fill that need while meeting precision, projection, and
timeline specifications.
