Resource Inventory, Assessment, and Analysis Services
Raven provides inventory services that enable landowners to manage their natural
resources on a quantitative and qualitative basis. We have purchased, and/or developed
internally, many databases and data management tools that allow us to catalogue, assess,
and analyze inventory information so that each client can know what they have, and how
best to manage it. Raven can also use our GIS expertise to integrate inventory data
with spatial data, so that resources can be mapped and monitored over time to
facilitate long-term planning and execution.
Endangered Species
Raven has more than a decade of experience inventorying and managing endangered,
threatened, and sensitive faunal and floral species indigenous to the southeastern
U.S. We conduct systematic and thorough baseline inventories for these species using
accepted, scientific methods. Raven holds Scientific Collection Permits in three
states. We also hold an Incidental Take Permit for the endangered red-cockaded
woodpecker, as well as being a Certified Trainer for the trapping, translocation,
and installation of artificial cavities for this species. Some other listed species
that Raven has conducted inventories for include the bald eagle, the Louisiana pine
snake, and Texas trailing phlox.
Game and Non-game Species
Our staff has more than fifteen years experience with the hands-on inventory and
management of game species including white-tailed deer, exotic ungulates, northern
bobwhite quail, and eastern turkey. We also have expertise in conducting songbird
point counts and grassland bird inventories that include species such as the
imperiled Henslow’s and Bachman’s sparrows. Raven’s broad knowledge of both game
and non-game species biology allow us to develop and implement inventory and management
strategies for a client’s entire property or for a single target species.
Vegetation and Botanical Inventories
Raven has conducted many botanical inventories and provided vegetation monitoring
services within a variety of habitats and ecotypes across the southeastern U.S. and
all of Texas. We can identify the presence of imperiled or endangered plant species
within a proposed project area to avoid regulatory issues or provide systematic
vegetation monitoring over a period of time to determine the effects of management
regimes, such as prescribed burning, timber harvests, or ecological restoration.
Changes in plant communities and vegetation are often an excellent barometer for the
relative success of a clients land management and wildlife objectives.
Wetlands Delineation and Inventories
Two of Raven’s staff are certified wetland delineators. Their skills are used by our
clients to identify and delineate wetlands for conservation purposes, but also to
identify regulatory wetlands so that they can be avoided. Field-surveys that combine
our wetland delineation expertise with our inventory and compliance expertise have
helped many clients implement their projects on time and with minimal regulatory agency
involvement.
